US import duty calculator

US Import Duty & Landed Cost Calculator

Estimate the represented duty and landed cost for goods entering the United States. Enter a product or HTS code, customs country of origin, quantity, unit price, entry date, and transport mode; ship-from alone does not establish origin.

  • See each represented layer. Base HTS duty, applicable additional tariff layers, your selected MPF treatment, and a separately selected HMF scenario stay itemized.
  • Build landed cost. Goods value, freight, and insurance remain visible beside duties and fees instead of being folded into one unexplained percentage.
  • Stop when facts are missing. Classification, origin, entry type, exclusions, AD/CVD scope, and final CBP assessment may require official or professional review.

How it works

One estimate, with every assumption kept visible.

01

Resolve the product

Search by product language or enter 4, 6, 8, or 10 digits. We show whether the selected line is exact or inherits a rate.

02

Set the origin

The same HTS line can have a different stack by origin. FTA preference is modeled separately from ordinary origin.

03

Describe the shipment

Quantity, price, transport, freight, and insurance make the estimate useful for a purchase decision.

04

Inspect the stack

Base rate, additional measures, fees, match quality, and authority links remain separate—never hidden inside one percentage.

Reproducible demonstrations

Import cost examples

These are dated demonstration inputs, not customer orders. Load one into the calculator to see the represented duties, fees, and information that still needs review.

Small appliance · dated 2026-09-15

Automatic drip coffee maker made in China

A complete household electrothermic automatic drip or pump coffee maker, using HTS candidate 8516.71.00.20. China is the stated manufacturing origin; a seller or later ship-from country would not replace it without origin-changing facts.

Goods
1 each × $100; U.S. import
Logistics
Ocean; $0 freight; $0 insurance
Filing inputs
Formal electronic MPF; qualifying-ocean HMF scenario; no FTA claim
Layers to inspect
Base HTS duty, represented China-origin layers, MPF, HMF, exclusions, and AD/CVD review flags

Earlier totals are not shown. They no longer match the data published on this page. Recalculate these inputs and review any missing information before relying on the estimate.

Apparel · dated 2026-09-15

Men’s cotton T-shirts from Vietnam

A knitted or crocheted men's cotton T-shirt in the “other” statistical line, using HTS candidate 6109.10.00.04. Vietnam is the stated origin; dispatch location alone is not an origin determination.

Goods
12 each; $100 total value; U.S. import
Logistics
Ocean; $0 freight; $0 insurance
Filing inputs
Formal electronic MPF; qualifying-ocean HMF scenario; no FTA claim
Layers to inspect
Base HTS duty, represented origin layers, MPF, HMF, and textile, admissibility, or classification stops

Accessory · dated input test 2026-08-24

Leather handbags from Italy

HTS candidate 4202.21.90.00 is used only for a handbag whose outer surface is leather or composition leather and whose value is over $20 each. The dated browser test supplied this code; it did not prove classification for another product.

Goods
100 each × $50; $5,000 total; U.S. import
Origin
Italy; ship-from is not used to infer or replace origin
Logistics
Ocean; $0 freight; $0 insurance
Filing inputs
MPF treatment unknown; HMF not selected; no FTA claim

Partial estimate only. Entry filing and port-fee details were not specified. Expect a partial estimate, not a confirmed final cost. Recalculate these inputs, then manually confirm classification, origin, entry treatment, port-fee applicability, and any AD/CVD scope.

Origin and ship-from are different facts. The separate China-made coffee maker shipped unchanged from Canada demonstration shows why Canadian dispatch does not make the appliance Canadian-origin. For source selection and update rules, see Sources and methodology.

What the estimate covers

Tariff layers are calculated independently.

The engine uses only current, structured rules represented in the SkuWatch snapshot. It flags the categories that still require broker or agency review.

01

Base HTS duty

General rate, including clean ad valorem, specific, and compound rate forms where the required unit is supported.

02

Section 301

Current origin-and-code layers from USTR-linked records, shown separately from the base rate.

03

Section 232

Current product measures represented in the structured rule set, with their source authority.

04

FTA scenario

Uses the HTS special rate only where the listed program matches the origin. Eligibility is not assumed.

05

CBP user fees

FY2026 formal-entry MPF and ocean HMF, with the fee schedule’s validity date enforced.

06

Review flags

AD/CVD, exclusions, quota treatment, ambiguous units, and classification uncertainty are disclosed rather than guessed.

Built for decisions

From purchase order to product catalog.

The same transparent calculation serves four different jobs without changing the underlying record.

Importers & brands

Test landed cost and margin before committing to a supplier or origin.

3PLs & brokers

Give clients a traceable first estimate and surface the assumptions that need validation.

Developers

Prototype tariff-aware checkout, sourcing, ERP, and catalog workflows against structured records.

Finance & operations

Compare planned costs with entry documents and identify where the tariff stack changed.

Data status

Freshness is part of the answer.

Every calculation is tied to a named HTS revision and the current structured measure snapshot. A stale fee schedule is automatically withheld instead of silently reused.

Common questions

Know what the estimate does—and does not—prove.

Does the calculator choose the legally correct HTS code?

No. Product search produces classification candidates from the current HTS text; it is not a binding classification. Confirm the full 10-digit code from the product facts and, where needed, request professional or CBP guidance.

What customs value does SkuWatch use?

The calculator uses quantity × price per unit as the goods value for duty and the FY2026 MPF scenario. Freight and insurance remain visible in landed cost but are not included in that customs-value assumption.

Does selecting an FTA country guarantee a special rate?

No. The option is an explicit scenario. It uses a listed special-program rate only when the HTS record names a program matching the selected origin. Rules of origin, documentation, direct shipment, and other requirements still need validation.

Are MPF and HMF always charged?

No. Choose the MPF entry treatment that matches the filing. Formal and informal entries use different FY2026 amounts. HMF is a separate scenario for qualifying commercial vessel cargo at a covered U.S. port; transport mode alone does not establish that it applies.

Are AD/CVD cash-deposit rates included?

Not yet. AD/CVD scope and respondent-specific rates can require facts beyond an HTS code and country. SkuWatch flags this review boundary rather than inserting a generic percentage.
